New Year's Eve 83/84 - The Smiths' first US gig

This video shows Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr talking about the band's first US gig. They had just released their second single This Charming Man in the UK. The gig was at Danceteria in New York on New Years Eve 1983/84. Opening was the venue's hat-check girl, soon to make her UK live debut at the Hacienda in Manchester.
